Life and career
Kyle Edward Cranston was born in Hollywood, Los Angeles,[3] on June 22, 1953, the first of three children born to Annalisa "Peggy" (née Sell), a radio actress, and Joseph Louis Cranston, an actor and former amateur boxer.[4][5] His father was of half Irish, quarter Austrian Ashkenazi Jewish, and quarter German descent, while his mother was the daughter of German immigrants.[6][7][8] He has a younger brother, Bryan, and a younger sister, Amy.[9] Cranston was raised in Canoga Park, Los Angeles.[10][11] His father held many jobs before deciding to become an actor, but did not secure enough roles to provide for his family.[12] He eventually walked out on the family when Cranston was 14 years old, and they did not see each other again until a 25-year-old Cranston and his brother Bryan decided to track him down.[4] He then maintained a relationship with his father until the latter's death in 2014.[13]

Cranston is a Democrat[14] and supported Bernie Sanders in the 2016 United States presidential election.[15]
Cranston is a supporter of the Black Lives Matter movement.[16][17]
