History and Development
Construction of the Lapovci block primarily took place during the 1970s and 1980s to accommodate the rapid industrial growth of Vinkovci, which was a major railway and textile hub at the time. The district was designed as a "planned neighborhood," following the urbanist trends of the era that emphasized high-rise living combined with communal social areas.
During the Croatian War of Independence (1991–1995), Lapovci was frequently targeted by shelling due to its proximity to the front lines, resulting in significant damage to many apartment buildings. Most of these structures have since been renovated, many recently receiving energy-efficient facades.[2]
Geography and Infrastructure
Lapovci is situated west of the town center, bordered by the Lenije park and forest to the south and the Zagrebačka street to the north.
