Founded in Milan in 1990, it did not participate in any league, had no headquarters or official playing field, and did not even have any registered players.

The players who made up this team, regardless of nationality, were invited by the club's president and secretary, and participate solely on an amateur basis, regardless of their "status."

History

Founded in 1990 as "I Libelluli", it changed its name a year later to its current name, more appropriate for clubs competing in international tournaments. The team's first teams were composed exclusively of scrum players, particularly props. These teams were therefore composed of players who were anything but light, and so, by contrast, the name Libelluli (dragonflies) was adopted, which refers to a graceful animal. The teams was formed by non-professional rugby players, as quite all rugby teams before 1995, when International Rugby Board declared rugby union an "open" or professional game, ending the sport's long amateur status. Because of this, players became hard to enroll, due to professional activity, so the team gradually decreased its appearances until its last match, played in 2000.

The Libelluli RFC team generally plays its home games at the Mario Giuriati sports ground, in Milan, in the Città Studi area.

Jersey

The Libelluli RFC jersey colors are red, white, green, and blue, in four colored quarters. The four colors also represent the three historic rugby teams of the city of Milan:

  • white for Amatori Milano,
  • white/red for Rugby Milano,
  • green/blue for CUS Milano Rugby.

The distinctive feature of the Libelluli players' uniform is that each player wears the club's colored quartered jersey, but the socks of their home team.

Mascot

Club pennant

The Libelluli RFC team logo/mascot features a stylized dragonfly with three pairs of wings, rather than two, to highlight its unusual size. This feature recalls the team's origins, which was primarily made up of rugby scrum players.

The nature of the Libelluli as a touring side made for a diverse fixture list, but at a number of points in the club's history they have settled for a time into a regular pattern. They typically compete against teams from the northern Italy, during pre-season amicable training matches and post-season national and international tournaments as Hong Kong 10's and Amsterdam 7's. Libelluli was the first [2]Italian-based team to compete tournament in Hong Kong 10's.
