While Nintendo is a Japanese video game company, the company has produced various films, TV shows, and shorts based on their video game franchises over time. These forms of visual media range from theatrical releases to exclusively released on Nintendo Today! and now-defunct Nintendo eShops.

Super Mario Bros.: The Great Mission to Rescue Princess Peach! is an animated film that only released in Japan.
Super Mario Bros. (1993)
Super Mario Bros. is the first theatrical film featuring Nintendo properties. Directed by husband-and-wife Rocky Morton and Annabel Jankel, it was live action and starred Bob Hoskins as Mario and John Leguizamo as Luigi.
Animal Crossing (2006)
Animal Crossing[a] is an animated film about directed by Jōji Shimura about the Animal Crossing franchise. The film never released outside of Japan.[1]
The Super Mario Bros. Movie (2023)
The Super Mario Bros. Movie is the first movie inspired by the Super Mario series in 30 years. Unrelated to the 1993 film, the movie was animated by Illumination, and partly produced by Shigeru Miyamoto, the original creator of the franchise. The movie had been in development since 2017, with discussions about the potential of a Super Mario movie being seen in the November 2014 hack of Sony Pictures. The movie was officially announced on 2018, with the release window of 2022. Trailers for the movie were released in themed Nintendo Directs running from October 2022 to March of the following year. The movie was released on April 5, 2023, and received overwhelming box office success. It grossed $1.3 billion worldwide and became the highest-grossing video game film adaptation.
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie (2026)
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is the sequel to The Super Mario Bros. Movie, and is set to release on April 3, 2026. The movie was officially announced on September 12, 2025, in a Nintendo Direct, and the first trailer was shown on November 12, 2025, in its own separate Direct. It later got another Direct on January 25, 2026, showing off more of the movie.
The Legend of Zelda (2027)
The Legend of Zelda, produced by Avi Arad and Wes Ball, is the first live action Nintendo film since Super Mario Bros. in 1993. It was confirmed to be in development in November 2023. On Nintendo Today!, the release date was announced to be March 26, 2027, but it was later delayed to May 7.

Pikmin Short Movies (2014)
Three short films based off of the Pikmin series were storyboarded by Shigeru Miyamoto on Flipnote Studio 3D, and started development around the same time as Pikmin 3.[2] They were later archived on Nintendo's official YouTube account in 2020.[3]
Star Fox Zero: The Battle Begins (2016)
Star Fox Zero: The Battle Begins was a 3D animated short film released on the Wii U Nintendo eShop in 2016 to commemorate the release of Star Fox Zero. It was produced by Nintendo, Production I.G, and WIT Studio.[4]
It's Me, Mario! (2025)
It's Me, Mario! is a series of stop motion shorts released as a part of the My Mario product series. It has three episodes posted on YouTube and the "Hello, Mario!" app on the Nintendo Switch and mobile devices.[5]
Close to You (2025)
Close to You is the first series of short films released by Nintendo Pictures. The two films released on the Nintendo Today! app, alongside YouTube, Instagram, and Twitter.[6]
