Lucia Simonelli is a non-establishment candidate for Pennsylvania's 1st congressional district.[1] She is contesting Bucks County Commissioner Bob Harvie[2] for the Democratic nomination. Both candidates hope to defeat five-term incumbent Republican Brian Fitzpatrick in the November general election.[3] A win in this District may determine which party controls the U.S. House of Representatives after 3 January 2027.[4][5]

Her academic background includes a PhD in Mathematics from the University of Maryland (2016) and a BS in Mathematics from The University of Texas at Austin (2008).[6]

Simonelli has completed the petition process and is qualified for the 2026 PA-01 primary election ballot.[7] The primary is set for 19 May 2026.[7] Her campaign endorsements to date include former Pennsylvania House Representative Helen Tai,[8] three subchapters of Indivisible of Montgomery County[9] and Track AIPAC.[10]

A mathematician[11] and former scientific advisor to U.S. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse,[12] Simonelli's campaign priorities include election fairness; affordable healthcare, food and utility costs; immigration and climate policy.[13] She is currently employed as Director of Programs at the Carbon Removal Standards Initiative.[14]

The Lucia for Congress campaign is operated by Quakertown-based Friends of Lucia.[15] The group organizes or participates in town halls, podcasts, protests, and supporter-hosted house parties to meet, share ideas and spread awareness of electoral issues.[16][17][18][19][20][21]

The League of Women Voters will host a candidate forum with Simonelli and Harvie on April 27 at 7 pm at the Doylestown United Methodist Church.[22][23]
