History
Founding and early products
Laszlo Klementis, a machinist and competitive shooter, founded MDT in 2009 after designing a rifle chassis for personal use. Unable to afford existing precision rifle stocks, Klementis created prototypes using SOLIDWORKS CAD software. The 21st design iteration became the company's first product, the TAC21 chassis, with its name derived from the version number.[1][3]
Maarten Van Ruitenburg joined MDT in late 2012 and became CEO.[4] In 2013, Van Ruitenburg directed development of a lighter, more compact chassis, resulting in the LSS (Light Sniper System).[1][5] Under Van Ruitenburg's leadership, MDT established OEM supply relationships with rifle manufacturers including Remington, Mossberg, Savage, and Howa, and expanded through multiple acquisitions.[1]
Acquisitions
In January 2019, MDT acquired the Ckye-Pod bipod design from Ckye Thomas of 406 Bullets.[6][7] The same month, the company launched Oryx, a chassis brand at a lower price point than its existing product lines.[8]
In October 2019, MDT acquired the designs, tooling, and patents of J. Allen Enterprises, manufacturer of the JAE-700 and JAE-100 chassis systems.[9] MDT released an updated JAE-700 G4 chassis in 2022.[10]
In May 2022, MDT acquired Long Range Arms, manufacturer of the Send-iT electronic rifle level.[11]
In November 2023, MDT acquired Warhorse Development, a manufacturer of shooting support bags used in precision rifle competition.[12][13]
Product development
In 2021, MDT introduced the HNT26 chassis system, the company's first chassis designed specifically for hunting applications. The HNT26 features a magnesium alloy base with carbon fiber components and weighs 26 ounces for the complete system.[14][15]
In October 2024, MDT released the CRBN rifle stock, a foam-filled carbon fiber stock with an integrated magnesium micro-chassis weighing 27 ounces.[16][17]
At SHOT Show 2025, MDT announced the LSS Gen3 chassis system, featuring a modular design that allows handguards and buttstocks to be swapped without affecting rifle zero.[18][19]
At SHOT Show 2026, MDT introduced the DRT chassis system, designed for night hunting applications. The DRT weighs 3.2 pounds, a reduction compared to the company's ACC chassis line.[20]
Products
MDT manufactures rifle chassis systems compatible with bolt-action rifles from manufacturers including Remington, Savage, Tikka, and Howa.[1] Product lines include the TAC21, LSS, LSS Gen3, ACC, ESS, HNT26, CRBN, and DRT chassis systems, as well as the Oryx brand and the JAE chassis line acquired in 2019.[1][10][14][16][18][20] The company also produces detachable box magazines, the Ckye-Pod bipod line, the Send-iT electronic level, and shooting support bags under the Warhorse brand.[6][11][12]
MDT supplies chassis systems to rifle manufacturers as an OEM partner, including Remington, Mossberg, Savage, and Howa.[1]
