Early life and education

Kebbel grew up in Bremen and in Rösrath near Cologne. After finishing school he worked as an assistant to the visual artist Hella Berent in Cologne and in Cairo.

He studied fine art at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf under the Danish artist Tal R, where he later became a master student (Meisterschüler) of Tal R.

Kebbel’s work is situated at the intersection of light installation, media art and architecture. His projects often combine technological systems with organic forms and explore the interaction between light, space and perception. Many of his installations are conceived as modular or site-specific structures that respond to spatial and atmospheric conditions.

His works have been presented at international light festivals including the Festival of Lights in Berlin, i Light Singapore, the Sharjah Light Festival, The Hague Highlights, and the Winter Festival of Lights in Niagara Falls.
