Early life and education
Caminal was born in 1998 in Andorra.[2] She moved to Spain to pursue higher education in cinematography, specializing in film direction, production, and screenwriting.[2] Her work is characterized by a focus on female narratives and social justice themes, including sexual harassment and the precarious position of women in the workplace.[3]
Career
Caminal's early career included the comedy short Bienvenido a los 30, which competed in the 2019 edition of the Notodofilmfest, where it was a finalist in the Flix Olé category for most-viewed short film by the public.[4][2] The film was also selected at the Festival de Cortometrajes de Bizarrya in Portugal.[5]
Her subsequent short film Mariana (2022), produced under Smiley Visual, stars Nacho Guerreros and Victoria Santos. The film explores themes of labour abuse and sexual harassment faced by an immigrant woman, and is based on real events.[6] Mariana screened at the Octubre Corto festival in La Rioja and at Zoom Igualada Short Film Festival in Catalonia, and was chosen by Amnesty International from among 300 submitted works for its film cycle.[1] The film also screened at the International Women's Film Festival in New York and India.[1]
In 2024, Caminal was selected for a residency at Faberllull to develop her first feature film, titled Les dones de gel (The Women of Ice), which addresses the topic of human trafficking.[1]
