Draft:Matt Heart

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Matt Heart (born Matthew Smith) is an American singer-songwriter, author, and independent publisher. He founded the independent publishing imprint Cold Fever Books. He was the plaintiff in the federal copyright case Smith v. Summit Entertainment LLC, which addressed alleged misuse of Digital Millennium Copyright Act takedown notices.[1][2]

Career

Heart began releasing original music in the early 2000s. In 2006, he and collaborator John Davis were profiled by The Blade, which documented the formation of their band Purpose and reported that their debut album helped them win the “Best Alternative Performer” honor at the Black Music Awards in Los Angeles.[3]

Heart later founded the independent horror imprint Cold Fever Books and continues releasing music as a singer-songwriter.

In 2010, Heart filed suit against Summit Entertainment after the studio issued a DMCA takedown notice against one of his original songs. The case, Smith v. Summit Entertainment LLC, has been cited in legal commentary concerning wrongful copyright claims and Section 512(f) liability.[4][5]
