History
Founding and early development (1974–1991)
Merryfair was established in 1974 by Ong Hooi Lim in Malaysia to manufacture component parts for the furniture industry.[2] In 1982, the company transitioned into manufacturing complete office chairs.[2] By 1985, Merryfair had begun exporting its products to international markets.[2]
In 1992, the company established an additional manufacturing plant in Rawang, Selangor, covering approximately 1.5 acres, expanding its capacity to include broader office furniture solutions beyond seating.[2]
Growth and recognition (1995–2004)
In 1995, Merryfair received the Category I Export Excellence Award (Anugerah Kecemerlangan Eksport) at the Anugerah Kecemerlangan Industri, Malaysia's national industrial excellence awards programme administered by the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI).[3]
In 1998, the company obtained ISO 9002 certification for quality management.[2] In 2003, Merryfair upgraded this to ISO 9001:2000 certification and received the SMI-DHL Export Excellence Award at the SMI Recognition Award, organised by the SMI Association of Malaysia.[2]
International expansion (2005–present)
In 2005, Merryfair established a manufacturing plant and sales office in Shunde District, Foshan, Guangdong, China, marking its first manufacturing presence outside Malaysia.[2] In 2008, the company consolidated its Malaysian operations by relocating to a new facility in Klang, covering 65,000 square metres and integrating chair manufacturing, steel fabrication, plastic injection moulding, wood panel processing, and raw materials warehousing under one roof.[2] A sales office in Singapore was opened the same year, followed by operations in Thailand in 2009.[2]
Products
Merryfair manufactures ergonomic office seating across several categories, including task chairs, executive chairs, lounge seating, stacking chairs, and specialised seating for educational and public environments such as auditorium and student seating.[4] The company also produces office tables, including height-adjustable sit-stand desks, and modular system furniture incorporating panel systems and workstation configurations.[4]
Merryfair's office furniture is designed to comply with international ergonomic and safety standards. The company's seating range includes models certified to EN 1335, the European standard for office work chairs.[4]
