Early life and education

Before pursuing tech, Hwang toured as a session drummer and saw firsthand the frustrations of booking shows at independent venues. He later studied chemistry at New York University, graduating in 2019.[1]

Career

After graduating, Hwang launched GigFinesse with his cousin Ryan Kim, a former software engineer at Google. The platform handles scheduling, sets ticket prices, and pays performers directly. It also uses an algorithm to match clubs with artists based on metrics like average draw and how much a performer's fans typically spend at venues.[1]

The company faced a major setback when the COVID-19 pandemic shut down venues across New York City. Hwang relocated to Austin, Texas, where clubs remained open, and continued building the business there.[1]

As of January 2023, GigFinesse had grown to 30 employees, partnered with 100 clubs across the country, and had 5,000 acts on the platform. The company raised $3.6 million in seed funding and booked more than 3,500 shows in 2022.[1]
