Mohammed Fikrat is a Moroccan business executive. A graduate of École Centrale Paris (class of 1981) and holder of an MBA from IE Business School in Madrid (2006), he has held senior management positions in the phosphate, sugar, and financial sectors. Since 19 May 2023, he has served as Chairman of the Management Board of Crédit Agricole du Maroc, appointed to the position by His Majesty King Mohammed VI.[1]

Education

Mohammed Fikrat holds a State Engineer's degree from École Centrale Paris, obtained in 1981.[2] He furthered his education with an MBA from IE Business School in Madrid in 2006.[3]

Professional Career

OCP Group (1981–2004)

Mohammed Fikrat began his career in 1981 at Groupe OCP, the Moroccan state-owned operator specialising in the extraction and processing of phosphates.[4] He successively held several senior positions there, including Director of the Jorf Lasfar phosphate processing platform, Chief Executive Officer of EMAPHOS, Chief Executive Officer of IMACID, and Director of Strategy and Development for the group.[5]

COSUMAR (2004–2021)

In 2004, Mohammed Fikrat was appointed Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the COSUMAR group, Morocco's leading sugar industry operator, a position he held until October 2021.[6] Under his leadership, the group acquired in 2005 four privatised state-owned sugar refineries — Sunabel, Surac, Suta, and Sucrafor — for a total of 1.367 billion dirhams, making COSUMAR the sole operator in the Moroccan sugar sector.[7] He also contributed to the creation of the Moroccan Interprofessional Sugar Federation (FIMASUCRE), the first sugar interprofessional body in Morocco, and to the signing of the sector's first programme contract with the State.[8] In 2010, he chaired the International Sugar Organization.[9]

Crédit Agricole du Maroc (since 2023)

On 19 May 2023, Mohammed Fikrat was appointed Chairman of the Management Board of Crédit Agricole du Maroc by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, following the Council of Ministers held that same day. He succeeded Noureddine Boutayeb.[10] The handover ceremony took place on 24 May 2023 in Rabat, in the presence of Minister of Agriculture Mohamed Sadiki.[11]

Responsibilities and Mandates

Mohammed Fikrat holds or has held several positions in economic, social, and professional institutions. He is notably President of the Fondation Zakoura[12], Chairman of the Board of the International Agriculture Fair in Morocco (SIAM), and Chairman of the Mohammed VI National Centre for Persons with Disabilities. He has also served as Vice-President of the Moroccan General Confederation of Enterprises (CGEM) and of the Moroccan Association of Exporters (ASMEX).[13] He is a member of the Economic, Social and Environmental Council (CESE), where he chairs the Commission on Economic Affairs and Strategic Projects, and a member of the Special Commission for the New Development Model.[14] He has also served as independent director and chairman of the audit committee of SONASID and TotalEnergies Marketing Maroc.[15]

Honours

In 2000, he received the Ouissam Al Moukafaa Al Wataniya at the rank of Officer, a Moroccan royal honorary distinction.[16] In 2012, he was named "Manager of the Year" by the Moroccan Association for Quality and Management (AQM). In 2018, he received the "Arab Best Award — CEO of the Year".
