The programme premiered on CBeebies and BBC iPlayer on 7 October 2024; according to a contemporaneous industry announcement, new episodes were broadcast daily at 4:15pm, with episodes also made available on iPlayer.[4][2] The first series comprises 52 episodes, each approximately 11 minutes long.[1][2][6] Aardman Animations handles distribution for the brand internationally.[7]
Premise
Set in and around the town of Swoppiton, the series centres on Mojo, a "plucky little truck" who can tackle a wide variety of tasks by swapping her "top" to gain new tools and abilities (for example, changing into construction, rescue, or transport configurations).[2][5] Her closest partner is Bo, a mechanic who supports each mission with repairs, planning, and inventions from his "toolbox full of talent and lots of big ideas".[2][5]
Episodes generally present a community problem—often triggered by a local event, a logistical mishap, or an accidental chain reaction—and follow Mojo and Bo as they select an appropriate Swoptop and work through setbacks to resolve it.[1][5] The series is positioned as a comedy-action preschool format with a focus on problem-solving and helping others.[1][2][5]
Characters
Main
Mojo – A small truck who can "swop her top" to become different specialist vehicles for different jobs.[2][5] Mojo is voiced by Rosa Brass.[3]
Bo – Mojo's best friend, a mechanic who assists with planning, repairs, and inventive solutions.[5][2] Bo is voiced by Sammy Cosgrove.[3]
Supporting
Mayor Sunita – The mayor who frequently calls on Mojo and Bo to help keep the town running smoothly and to support community events; voiced by Anjli Mohindra.[4]
Nori – A builder described as Swopsea's "favourite builder"; voiced by Laura Checkley.[4]
(Additional supporting characters appear throughout the series, including recurring townspeople and vehicles; broad cast listings for the series are published by Apple TV's programme metadata.)[3]
Production
Origins and development
Mojo Swoptops is based on a Ladybird book property created by Cindy Black and Rich Ward.[1][2] According to Aardman's distribution information, the original book brand was first published in 1979 and sold more than 250,000 copies; the adaptation emphasises vehicle transformation and a modernised "electric" concept for the protagonist's modular tops.[7]
Blue Zoo has stated that development work on an animated adaptation began in 2004, with the eventual series produced as a preschool comedy-action format for CBeebies.[8]
Commissioning and announcement
The series was included in BBC Children's commissioning announcements in October 2023, described as a preschool title produced by Blue Zoo and Tararaboom and featuring the protagonist's "cardrobe" of interchangeable Swoptops.[9] Blue Zoo later described the series as 52 × 11-minute episodes and noted that it had been pre-sold into eight major territories, with a second series "in the planning stages".[1] The Composerworks also reported pre-sales into eight territories and stated that the series had been commissioned by CBeebies.[5]
Animation production and international collaboration
Production was carried out at Blue Zoo's London studio and at Kazoo, a Lille-based animation studio described by Blue Zoo as a collaborative venture with Samka Productions; the studio was presented as being established to support international animation production, with Mojo Swoptops cited as its first project.[1] A licensing trade report characterised the project as an international co-production spanning the UK, France, and Belgium, and referenced Kazoo and Hotel Bonka in that production arrangement.[2]
Directors
The series is directed by Dominic Minns and Olly Brown.[1] Minns' involvement was highlighted by Blue Zoo in connection with his prior work on the CBeebies series Supertato.[1]
Music
The series' theme and score were composed by Heather Fenoughty, Alex Ball, and Sanj Sen, with the credit spanning the full 52-part series.[5] Trade and promotional coverage positioned the music as an integrated theme-and-score package rather than standalone episode songs.[5]
Broadcast and release
United Kingdom
Mojo Swoptops launched on CBeebies and BBC iPlayer on 7 October 2024.[2][5][1] An agency announcement tied to the cast stated that a new episode was scheduled daily at 4:15pm from launch, and that episodes were available on iPlayer.[4]
International distribution
Aardman Animations distributes the series internationally.[7] Prior to or around launch, Blue Zoo, Licensing.biz, and The Composerworks each reported that the series had been pre-sold into eight major territories (without naming all territories in the cited announcements).[1][2][5]
Evidence of international carriage includes publication of episode transcript materials by TVO Kids (Canada) for at least one episode ("Ready, Sheddy, Go").[10]
Music releases
Two digital singles associated with the brand have been released on Apple Music:
Mojo Swoptops – Theme Tune (single; released 7 October 2024).[11]
Helping You Is What We Do! (single; released 25 April 2025).[12]
The series score and theme composition credits are attributed to Heather Fenoughty, Alex Ball, and Sanj Sen in Composerworks coverage tied to the programme's UK launch.[5]
Merchandising and licensing
Aardman's distribution listing presents the property as a modular-vehicle concept suitable for extensible "tops" and notes its origins as a long-running book brand, positioning it for international licensing and consumer-products development under Aardman's distribution umbrella.[7] Licensing trade coverage also framed the series as a "CG-animated comedy action series" designed to attract UK preschool audiences and highlighted its international co-production and pre-sales footprint ahead of launch.[2]
