History
Music Factory Records was established in 2010 in Seattle, Washington, by guitarist and educator Ari Joshua. The label's origins date back to 2005, when Joshua founded The Music Factory as an instructional facility, later relocating the organization to its Madison Valley location in 2007.[2][3] The organization operates a physical facility that serves as a recording studio, rehearsal space, and a music school providing instrumental instruction and courses in Music theory and Audio production.[4]
The label is primarily known for "live-in-studio" recording sessions, a process where Joshua collaborates with a rotating group of professional session musicians from the jazz and rock communities, including John Medeski, Billy Martin, Robert Glasper, and Peter Buck.[5][6] Documented tracking for these projects often occurs at regional facilities including London Bridge Studio and Studio Litho. Media coverage from KNKX Public Radio, Earshot Jazz, and DownBeat has documented the label's role in the Pacific Northwest music scene and its focus on improvisational instrumental recordings.[7][8]
