History

On August 4, 2014, Dreamia requested ERC a license to operate a movie channel, tentatively named FILMFAN.[1] The channel was set to be available exclusively on the NOS platform.[2]

The plan was revived by NOS on May 8, 2019.[3] Broadcasts started on June 18, 2019, on NOS's higher-end package, however for its first month on air it was available to all subscribers. The channel was the first to carry the NOS brand, which planned to launch a NOS Sport channel, having requested along the regulator.[4] There was also NOS Studios+, an SVOD service with a launch line-up of 50 titles hoping to increase to 100 by the end of July.[5]

In its first five years on air, the channel premiered over 2000 titles. Action, drama and comedy are its three main genres.[6]
