Natasha Oyibo is a Nigerian-British public health specialist, risk management expert, and founder of the Arieli Foundation for Maternal and Child Health. Her work focuses on health systems strengthening, maternal and child health outcomes, and risk-informed decision-making in public sector and development programmes across Africa and Europe.

Early life and education

Oyibo earned a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry with first-class honours from Kingston University. She completed a Master of Research in Structural Molecular Biology at Imperial College London and later obtained a PhD in Risk Management and Public Health from Middlesex University. Her doctoral thesis examined risk communication as a strategy for addressing maternal mortality in Rivers State, Nigeria.[1]

Career

Oyibo has held programme leadership roles within the National Health Service (NHS) in the United Kingdom, bridging health and development programmes between the UK and Nigeria.

At the World Health Organization in Geneva, she contributed to research and policy development shaping international health standards.

She has served as a project manager and senior risk manager at the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) in Nigeria, where she contributed to enterprise risk management framework design and supported IMF TADAT reform programmes.

Oyibo provides advisory services to the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare and the Federal Ministry of Women's Affairs on policy implementation and gender-responsive programme design.

Arieli Foundation

Oyibo founded the Arieli Foundation for Maternal and Child Health on December 8, 2023.[2] The foundation is a non-profit organisation dedicated to reducing maternal and child mortality in underserved communities across Nigeria. Its programmes include community outreach, health education, mobile clinics, menstrual health education, nutrition programmes, mental health support, clean water initiatives, and an emergency referral initiative.[2]

In 2025, the foundation expanded from the Federal Capital Territory into Nasarawa, Kaduna, and Niger States.[3]

In 2026, Oyibo led the foundation's delegation to the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW70) in New York, where she advocated for Nigeria's maternal health agenda.[4][5][6]

Research

In 2016, Oyibo published a peer-reviewed study titled "Evaluating lay perceptions of maternal mortality to improve risk communication: a case study in Rivers State, Nigeria" in the journal Global Public Health (Taylor & Francis).[7]

Advisory roles

Oyibo serves on the advisory board of Bosom Hospital and Physiotherapy, contributing to RMNCH (Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, and Child Health) strategy, risk management, and healthcare quality improvement systems.
