For example, the Needoh Nice Cube has a maltose gel filling, whilst the Needoh Groovy Blob has a polyvinyl alcohol gel.[2] The gel inside of the stress balls have been advertised as non-toxic by Schylling, both on their website and on the packaging.
Incidents
In March of 2025, the nonprofit organization Consumer Reports demanded an investigation into the safety of the Needoh Nice Cube. This was after an incident, in which a 7 year old girl followed a social media trend, in which participants froze and then microwaved the Needoh Nice Cube to make it more malleable. This is due to the Needoh Nice Cubes maltose filling, which varies in ductility in different temperatures. After microwaving the toy, the toy popped, the gel getting onto the child's face, causing burns.[3]
There have been multiple other incidents, including a 8 year old getting chemical burns from the gel inside of the Needoh Nice Cube. This has caused cause for concern regarding the safety of the fillings used inside the toys.[2]
