Ogranya Jable Osai (born 25 August 1991), known professionally as Ogranya is a Nigerian singer, songwriter and actor. He began releasing music independently in 2016, initially sharing freestyles and original songs on SoundCloud, and released his debut single, "Black Widow", later that year.[1]

Early life and education

Ogranya was born and raised in Port Harcourt, Nigeria.[2] His given name Ogranya means 'Prosperity' in the Egbema dialect of the Ijaw (Izon) language;[3] he is of Ijaw ethnicity. He grew up in a household with regular exposure to music; his father had previously been a band member, while his mother led religious devotions that involved singing.[4][5] In interviews, Ogranya has cited artists such as Cardinal Rex, Duncan Mighty, and Frank Sinatra as early influences.[2][3]

Ogranya studied Architecture at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Ghana, during which time he began to pursue music more seriously.[1]

Career

After graduating from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Ogranya worked briefly as an architect before focusing on music full time.[4] He began releasing music independently in 2016, sharing original songs and freestyles online.[1]

In 2021, Ogranya undertook a year-long initiative titled Project 52, during which he released a new song each week.[6][7] The project resulted in 52 songs released over the course of the year and contributed to increased visibility for his work.[6][8]

On 9 July 2021, Ogranya collaborated with Nigerian rap duo Show Dem Camp on the track "Gbese".[9][10] He also appeared as a guest on "Streets", alongside Moss and Alpha Ojini.[11][12]

In 2022, Ogranya released the extended play Festival of the Sun under RedClay Entertainment.[1] The six-track project featured collaborations with Johnny Drille, Moelogo, Nvita the Storyteller, Gonzalo Blaq and Moliy.[13][14] Music publications including Pulse Nigeria and The Native reviewed the EP, noting its thematic focus on love, longing and personal growth.[13][14]

On 6 December 2024, Ogranya released his debut studio album With Open Arms[15] The album consists of 15 tracks and explores themes of vulnerability, love and introspection.[16][15]

In 2024, he made his acting debut in the Nigerian action drama film Freedom Way, written by Blessing Uzzi and directed by Afolabi Olalekan.,[18] The film premiered at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival[19] and won Best Movie and Best Writing at the 2025 Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCAs).[18]

In support of the album, Ogranya performed at select live events. One such performance took place in Toronto, Canada, on 22 September 2024 at Nothing Lost, Nothing Found.[20]

Artistry

Ogranya's music incorporates elements of R&B, soul, Afrofusion and pop.[4][5][13] In interviews, he has cited artists such as Craig David, John Mayer, Fela Kuti, Ne-Yo, 2Baba and Kanye West as influences.[2][3]

His songwriting frequently addresses themes of love, longing and personal experiences. Ogranya has described his approach to songwriting as drawing from his own life and the experiences of people around him.[5][6]
