Since January 2026, Thompson has hosted The Oliver Wild Experience ft. Oscar Thompson: Money, Power, Sex, and Culture with Oliver Wild. The podcast has featured a range of guests, including reality television personalities.^[1][2][3][4]

Thompson is a rank-and-file member of the Australian Labor Party. He is a member of the Labor Left faction.

He worked on Anthony Albanese's campaign in the seat of Grayndler at the 2025 Australian federal election. Thompson was interviewed and pictured at Albanese’s election night event. He has been pictured with Albanese on numerous occasions, including at private events.^{[5][6][7][8][9][10][11][12][13][14]}

At the 2026 NSW Labor State Conference, Thompson documented the removal of two rank-and-file members who were holding a Palestinian flag. He publicly opposed their removal and launched a petition calling on Chris Minns to apologise to the two members.^[15][16][17]
