Early life and education
Patodia was born in Kolkata, West Bengal. His father was the late Govind Ram Patodia and his mother was the late Smt. Bimla Devi Patodia.
He completed his secondary education at Marwari Hindi High School, Dibrugarh, under the Assam Board of Secondary Education, passing the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) examination in 1978 with distinction.
After completing school, Patodia moved to Pune, Maharashtra, where he initially enrolled in the science stream at Fergusson College before switching to commerce. He completed his undergraduate studies at Ness Wadia College of Commerce, Pune.
During his undergraduate studies, he qualified for the Chartered Accountancy entrance examination and undertook his articleship training with S. S. Goel & Company, a chartered accountancy firm, from 1982 to 1985. He qualified as a Chartered Accountant in November 1985.
As the Chartered Accountancy qualification was not at that time treated on par with a postgraduate degree, Patodia subsequently completed a Master of Commerce (M.Com.) from Ness Wadia College of Commerce under Pune University, along with a one-year Diploma in Taxation.
Career
Professional practice
After qualifying as a chartered accountant, Patodia established a professional practice in Kolkata, operating from the Fairlie Place commercial district. His work encompassed taxation, auditing, and corporate finance advisory services.
Industry
Patodia later entered the manufacturing sector, becoming Chairman and Managing Director of Pulkit Veneer Mills Pvt. Ltd., a plywood and veneer manufacturing company based in eastern India.
Sports administration
Kolkata Thunderbolts and Prime Volleyball League
Patodia entered sports administration with the launch of the Prime Volleyball League (PVL) in India. He is the owner of the Kolkata Thunderbolts, a franchise team competing in the league. In the inaugural PVL season in 2022, the Kolkata Thunderbolts became the inaugural champions of the league.
He has supported programmes for identifying and training young volleyball players, particularly in eastern and northeastern India. In connection with grassroots volleyball development activities, he met the President of India, Droupadi Murmu, as part of official foundation activities.
Social and community initiatives
Special Olympics Bharat
Patodia holds leadership roles within Special Olympics Bharat, serving as Vice President at the national level and as President of the West Bengal Chapter. In these capacities, he has been involved in organising and supporting national-level championships for athletes with intellectual and developmental disabilities, with events drawing participation from more than 20 Indian states.
Gandhi Mandela Foundation
Patodia serves as National Director of the Gandhi Mandela Foundation, through which he has been involved in initiatives promoting peace, social justice, and community development.
