Early life
Pepe was born on December 19, 2004, in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico. At the age of 6 he moved permanently to Montreal, QC, Canada along with his family.
Football
Pepe started playing football at the age of 3. At that time, kids were allowed to play tackle football at such young age. Since his first season with Club Halcones of the MFL, he has played the position of quarterback and wears the number twelve on his jersey.
After moving to Canada, Pepe played city football, first with the Chomedey Blues, and later with the Western Patriotes. In an interview, Pepe recalls it was during his years with the Western Patriots that his development as a quarterback started. In 2015, Pepe took his team to its first reginal championship (Bol d'argent) in the category Moustique AAA for kids aged 11-12.[1] [2]
Pepe started his junior high in 2017 and played for school's team, the Intrepides of Chene-Bleu high school for two years. In his second year, he took his team to its first regional championship in school's history.[3]
High School
After winning the reginal league with the Intrepides, Pepe drew the attention of the Cactus du College Notre-Dame, a first-division high school team from the RSEQ league. He played his last three years of high school there, where his second year (10th grade) was cancelled due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.
On his last year (11th grade, 2021), he took his team to the Bol d'Or, the provincial championship title where he was named the game's MVP.
He was named league MVP at the end of the season[4].
CEGEP
Pepe committed to the Phénix from Collège André-Grasset, a division I team in the RSEQ Collegial League, on the winter of 2021. He played there for the next three years, taking his team to one Bol d'Or appearance in 2023[5]. In his last year in CEGEP, Pepe was named league MVP[6] and the All-Star team quarterback two seasons in a row (2023 and 2024). He finished league's 4th all-time in touchdown passes[7].
Team Canada
Pepe was selected to be part of the Canada's U-20 Football Team, who will represent the country in the 2024 IFAF World Junior Championship to take place in Edmonton, Canada. He was named the starting quarterback for Team Canada 1, and would help his team win the Gold Medal against Team Japan.
University
In the summer of 2024, one year before his last in CEGEP, Pepe committed to the Carabins of the University de Montreal (UdeM) of the RSEQ Conference in U Sports. After the departure of the incumbent starting quarterback Jonathan Sénécal, he was named to the starting position as a true freshman.
During his first season (2025), Pepe established a team's record for most touchdown passes in a season (19) and fell short 26 yards to tie the all-time team's single season's total passing yards[8]. He helped his team win the first Dussault Cup (former Dunsmore Cup), the 6th Conference Championship in team's history. The Carabins went on to to win the National Championship, the Vanier Cup, the 3rd in team's history[9]. Pepe was named the game's MVP[10] and Football's Rookie of the year in both RSEQ (conference) and U Sports (national).[11] [12] Pepe is the fourth rookie quarterback in U Sports history, and the first from the RSEQ conference, to win the Vanier Cup.[13]
Baseball
Pepe began playing baseball in Mexico at the age of 5. He played regularly until the age of 19, and stopped playing due to schedule conflicts with his football practices. His main position was pitcher. During his career as an amateur baseball player, he played AAA level with the LaSalle Athletics and the LaSalle Cardinals of the Quebec Junior Elite Baseball League
