Piers Bourke (born 18 August 1978) is a British and Irish contemporary artist known for his multi-disciplinary approach that combines photography, printmaking, and sculpture. His work frequently explores themes of communication, nostalgia, and the evolution of urban iconography, most notably through his depictions of British postage stamps and London telephone boxes.
Artistic Style and Themes
Bourke’s practice is characterised by what has been described as "Progressive Print." His work often utilises a labor-intensive process of printing digital images onto wooden panels or paper, which are then physically manipulated—rolled, spliced, or twisted—to create a three-dimensional effect.
Key Series:
Postal Histories: This series utilises the imagery of British postage stamps and post boxes[4], re-imagining the traditional icon through vibrant colour palettes and sculptural collage techniques. [5]
Eastern Signals[6] A series created from Singapore to capture time and influence of living and travelling in South East Asia using traditional painting and materials [7] [8]
