Pinoy Seoul (stylized as PinoySeoul) is a Filipino-English online media portal for Filipinos living in South Korea. Launched in 2017 by filmmaker Nash Ang, the portal provides news, community resources, and information relevant to Filipinos living, studying, and working in South Korea.[1] It is one of three online media portals managed by OBRA Incorporated.[2] The portal has received from the Philippine goverment though the Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO): the Interactive Media Award – Best Website on Migration in 2019.[3]

History
Founding
Pinoy Seoul was founded in 2017 by Nash Ang, a Filipino filmmaker and social entrepreneur based in Seoul. In an interview with The Korea Times, Ang stated that he started the portal while working as an International Correspondent of Seoul City Government through the Seoul Global Center.[1] Ang described the goal of the portal as becoming "the main communication bridge of Filipinos to Korea," noting that "Korea is not just about K-pop and tearjerker dramas."[1]
Within six months of launch, the portal's Facebook page had accumulated over 5,000 likes, its Twitter account had nearly 10,000 followers, and the website averaged 500 visitors per day.[1] The earliest archived version of the website, captured by the Wayback Machine on June 12, 2017, shows the portal operating under the tagline "The Filipino Korean Portal" with content covering Korean government scholarships, Philippine community events in Korea, and resources for migrant workers.[4]
Pinoy Store
In May 2019, the team behind Pinoy Seoul launched Pinoy Store, an e-commerce platform and mobile application selling Filipino products to Filipino migrant workers in South Korea. The platform was described as functioning similarly to an online sari-sari store, a type of neighborhood variety store common in the Philippines.[2] The application was developed by PS Media Enterprise and was available on Google Play.[2]
Pinoy Seoul Radio
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Pinoy Seoul expanded into online broadcasting with Pinoy Seoul Radio, a 24/7 streaming radio service launched on March 15, 2020.[5] The platform was created by Nash Ang as a response to the pandemic to keep Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) informed and entertained during the lockdowns. It featured programs tailored to the Filipino diaspora, such as "OFW Homesick Playlist" and "OPM Classics for Overseas Filipinos," alongside heavy rotation of public service announcements teaching social distancing.[5] The app, published on Google Play by PinoySeoul Media Enterprise, describes itself as bridging "Filipino and Korean cultures through music."[6]
Recognition
In December 2019, Pinoy Seoul received the Interactive Media Award – Best Website on Migration from the Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO), an agency under the Office of the President of the Philippines. The award recognized the portal for providing "relevant news, updates and useful information" and "assistance and support to all Filipinos living, working, studying, and visiting South Korea."[3]
Context
According to The Korea Times, approximately 60,000 Filipinos lived in South Korea as of 2018, making it the country's third-largest expatriate community after Chinese and Vietnamese nationals. Most Filipinos in South Korea work in factories, are students, or are women married to Korean nationals.[1]
Pinoy Seoul is operated alongside two other OBRA Incorporated portals: DancePinoy, a community for the Philippine dance scene established in 2009,[7] and Pinoy California, a portal for Filipinos in the United States.[8]
