From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

RFA Kharki was a collier / tanker built by the Irvine Shipbuilding & Engineering Company.

Dimensions

It was 185.2 feet in length, 29.1 feet in breadth, and 11.8 feet in depth. It had an engine of T3cyl, 15, 25, 40 x 27 inches, 80hp, 1-screw and could go 10 knots.[1]

History

It was launched on 22 December 1899 by the company in Irvine in Yard 16, for the Lombard Steamship Company. Soon after the turn of the 20th century, the Admiralty acquired a large amount of tankers and store ships. None of these were sister ships, and were the quickest to become RFA ships. The first owner of the ship was J. White. In 1905, it was converted into a tanker for carrying lubricating oil which had 27,000 gallons capacity. It was sold to Twong Tai in Hong Kong on 26 July 1931 and was converted to a dry cargo carrier for the west river. In 1936, it was eventually broken up.[1][2][3]
