The Research Institute for Health Sciences and Environment (Persian: پژوهشکده علوم بهداشتی و محیط زیست) is a research institute of Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences in Tehran, Iran. Established in March 2023, the institute was formed through the unification of four affiliated research centers: the Environmental and Occupational Hazards Control Research Center, the Air Quality and Climate Change Research Center, the Safety Promotion and Injury Prevention Research Center, and the Workplace Health Promotion Research Center. The institute conducts research on environmental, occupational, and public health and safety issues and supports interdisciplinary collaboration in health and environmental sciences.[1]

History

The Research Institute for Health Sciences and Environment was established in 2023 located at Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences. Its establishment followed a proposal submitted on 18 October 2021, which aimed to bring together the scientific and research activities of four existing research centers under a single organizational framework.[2]

Organization

[3] The research institute is led by a director and is consisted of four research centers:

• Environmental and Occupational Hazards Control Research Center

• Air Quality and Climate Change Research Center

• Safety Promotion and Injury Prevention Research Center

• Workplace Health Promotion Research Center

As well as three research groups and a research network:

• Disaster Management Research Group

• Artificial Intelligence and Data Analytics in Health and Environmental Sciences Research Group

• Health Technology Assessment and Health Economics Research Group

• Epidemic and Pandemic Preparedness and Response Research Network

Priority Areas

The institute's research focuses on environmental and occupational health, health promotion, injury prevention, environmental pollution control technologies, the health effects of environmental exposures and climate change, the health and environmental impacts of development, and environmental quality improvement.

Research and Activities

[4] The institute supports research in environmental and occupational health. According to the university, it has funded approximately 500 research proposals, including around 100 grant supported projects, which have resulted in more than 1,350 scholarly publications. The institute has also supported approximately 10 research projects designated as high-impact by the university. It has also published books related to health sciences and the environment.
