Early life
Huseynov was born on May 21, 1973, in Baku, Azerbaijan. After graduating Public High School, he studied historian at Baku State University. Having finished University in 1996 he completed a Bachelor of Art of history.
He was co-authored the first rock music magazine “Prok” in Azerbaijan, and the newspaper “Meloman”, on the same subject published by rock activist Shamil Agayev (Shaul Siman Tov). From 1990 to 2003 he played bass and percussion in a number of Azerbaijani heavy metal bands.
Since 2005 he has been actively involved in journalistic activity, was a political columnist in a newspaper “Obozrevatel” (in Russian means “Observer”). In the following two years he also worked as a journalist in a news agency “Novosti-Azerbaijan” (in Russian means “News-Azerbaijan”), and starting from 2007 for almost four years as a political columnist in a news agency “1NEWS”. He participated in monitoring of Azerbaijani and Armenian media in terms of the coverage of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and Armenian-Azerbaijani relations (with the assistance of Eurasia Partnership Foundation).
Career
Huseynov is senior researcher at the Institute of Law and Human Rights of the Republic of Azerbaijan.[1]
At the beginning of 2011, he has been engaged in research activities.[2] During the same year he took part in a hearing relating the topic “Decisions of the European Court of Human Rights on the claims of the countries of the South Caucasus and their implementation”, in the framework of the “Symbolic Caucasus Human Rights Court and Civil Service Hearing on the Democracies of the Caucasus”, supported by the National Endowment for Democracy (NFD).
From 2014, Huseynov has been a director of the Center for the Caucasus History, which implemented a number of peacebuilding projects and events with participation of Azerbaijani, Armenian, Georgian, Turkish, Russian, European, Kazakh, Uzbek experts and peacekeepers.[3][4][5][6][7]
He was elected associate professor of the Branch of UNESCO Chair on comparative Studies of Spiritual Traditions, Specific Cultures and Interreligious Dialogue in the Northern Caucasus in 2015.[7]
He is regularly invited to major international forums and scientific conferences, where he gives a presentation on the issue of the event being held.
Publications
Huseynov is an author of several books and more than 250 scientific and journalistic articles and monographs on the history of Azerbaijan, the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict and the geopolitics of the South Caucasus. The monograph “Azerbaijan and the Armenian Question in the Caucasus” was reviewed and recommended for reading and entered the teaching course at a number of foreign universities. The monograph is available in a number of Book Houses of various countries, as well as in libraries of universities in United States and Europe. - On 25 December 2018, Rizvan Huseynov was elected a chairman of the “All-Caucasus House”, the peacebuilding NGO, was established in Georgia. The aim of the organization is to study and disseminate the cultural and historical heritage of the Caucasus.
- He was elected a member to the Public Council of the State Committee on Affairs with Religious Associations of the Republic of Azerbaijan 31 January 2025.[11]
- Rizvan Huseynov is periodically invited to local and foreign programs on numerous YouTube projects, where he conducts historical, political and expert analyses of events taking place in the world.
