Plot summary

Five filmmakers return to their memories of Rosa von Praunheim, each carrying a different story shaped by his presence in their lives. Their episodes flow into one another as they recall him as a mentor who pushed, provoked, encouraged, and unsettled them in equal measure. What emerges is a portrait built from affection and friction, from creative breakthroughs and moments of vulnerability, as they try to capture a man who has long made his own life part of his art.[1]

Reception

The film received highly positive reviews, with critics focusing on the relationship between the Rosakinder and their mentor, Rosa von Praunheim. Filmdienst[6] highlighted how five very different directors use personal short films to explore friendship, filmmaking, and the dynamics between teacher and student. The Teddy Award[7] jury emphasized that, despite their differences, all five filmmakers are connected through von Praunheim, whom they described as one of Germany’s most uninhibited and honest directors. The Süddeutsche Zeitung[8] noted that each filmmaker had received decisive encouragement from their mentor, particularly his insistence that they tell their own stories and find their own voices. The film magazine Cinema described the documentary as an insightful and witty blend of genres.
