Draft:Rusted Warfare
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Rusted Warfare is a real-time strategy (RTS) game developed and published by Corroding Games. Inspired by classic strategy titles of the 1990s — most notably Total Annihilation and the Command & Conquer series — the game is characterized by its retro-style pixel art, large-scale battles, and high degree of moddability. Originally released for Android in 2011,[1] it later expanded to PC (Windows, Linux, macOS) via Steam in 2017,[2] and later to iOS in 2020.[3]

Gameplay
Rusted Warfare focuses on macro-management and large-scale unit positioning rather than the high-speed "micro" common in modern e-sports. Players collect resources (credits) primarily through building Extractors on designated resource pools to fund the construction of land, air, and sea units.
Key features
- Large Scale Combat: Support for battles involving hundreds, or even thousands, of units simultaneously without significant performance degradation.
- Experimental Units: Late-game "Experimental" units serve as massive, expensive bosses capable of shifting the tide of battle.
- Cross-Platform Multiplayer: Players on mobile devices can play seamlessly against those on PC.
- No Microtransactions: Unlike many mobile RTS titles, Rusted Warfare features no "pay-to-win" mechanics or in-app purchases; all units are available via gameplay.
Technical details
The game is built on a custom engine that prioritizes performance and pathfinding efficiency. This allows the game to run on lower-end hardware while maintaining complex AI behaviors and projectile physics.
Modding support
A significant portion of the Rusted Warfare community revolves around its open modding architecture.
- Format: Units and structures are defined using simple
.initext files. - Customization: Players can add new units, custom graphics, and unique game logic without deep programming knowledge.
- Steam Workshop: The PC version features integrated Steam Workshop support, hosting thousands of community-created mods, ranging from total conversions to minor balance tweaks.[4]
