Draft:Ryan Zehl

American attorney From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ryan Zehl (born August 10, 1979) is a personal injury attorney and founder of Zehl & Associates, a law firm in Houston, Texas.[1][2][3][4]

  • Comment: I'm unsure whether the piece in Super Lawyers should be treated as entirely independent of Zehl, but even if it were, we need multiple reliable, independent pieces of significant coverage. I don't see any other sources in the draft at the moment that meet all of those criteria. MCE89 (talk) 05:15, 5 December 2025 (UTC)

Early life and education

Zehl was born on August 10, 1979, in Houston, Texas. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from the University of Texas in Austin in 2001.[5] He then pursued his Doctorate of Law (J.D.) from South Texas College of Law.[1]

Career

After graduating from law school, Zehl worked as a briefing attorney for Justice Scott Brister of the Texas Supreme Court in Austin.[1] Later, he joined Gardere's litigation and appellate group before founding his law firm, Zehl & Associates in 2007, where he is the owner and managing partner.[1]

Zehl & Associates is a nationally recognized personal injury law firm representing clients across the country who were seriously injured or tragically killed in truck and eighteen-wheeler accidents, oilfield accidents and explosions, and in catastrophic plant, refinery, and workplace accidents and explosions.[6]

Notable cases

In 2008, Zehl successfully represented Claudia Falkenberg in a sexual harassment lawsuit against Jimmy Bedford, a former Jack Daniel's Tennessee Whiskey master distiller.[7]

He also represented Alison Chang, a 15-year-old student from Dallas in 2007, whose photo was used by an ad agency that took it from a social media platform without her permission.[8][9]

In 2010, Zehl reached a confidential settlement with British Petroleum (B.P.) and Transocean on behalf of five workers who were seriously injured onboard the B.P. Deepwater Horizon when it tragically exploded.[1][10]

Later that year, Zehl also successfully resolved all claims filed against International Paper on behalf of David and Darren Clark in connection with injuries they received when a boiler exploded at one of International Paper's mills in Mississippi.[11][1]

In 2012, he recovered the largest accident verdict in Texas ($18.8 million) against Greyhound bus company on behalf of a passenger who was injured when the bus rolled over on icy roads on the Texas-Oklahoma border. Several years later, Zehl obtained a $6 million settlement on behalf of four bus passengers who were injured in a Greyhound crash after successfully petitioning the court to order a sleep apnea test of the Greyhound bus driver.[12][13][14]

After the 2019 ITC tank-fire in Deer Park, Texas, Zehl worked with community members affected by the incident and publicly urged caution over signing company-issued claim forms that might waive their right to sue.[15]

In 2021, Zehl reached a $90 million settlement for an oilfield worker who sustained severe burns when an oil well exploded during a workover in Burleson County, Texas.[16][17]

In 2024, Zehl secured a $37.5 million verdict for the family of a truck driver who was killed while parked on the side of a Dallas toll road due to mechanical issues with his vehicle. The collision occurred when an Oncor Electric Company lineman struck both the truck and the driver.[18][19]

Personal Life

Zehl resides in Houston, Texas, with his wife Laura.[5] He is an alumnus and supporter of the University of Texas, where he was a Silver Spur.[5]
