RöFo is a German[1] peer-reviewed medical journal.[2] Its title is an abbreviation[3][2] of its full formal title Fortschritte auf dem Gebiete der ntgenstrahlen und der bildgebenden Verfahren (Advances in the Field of X-rays and Medical Imaging).[1] It has used other titles as well, such as to indicate medical imaging beyond merely x-ray technology: Fortschritte auf dem Gebiete der Röntgenstrahlen und der Nuklearmedizin (in English: Advances in the Field of X-rays and Nuclear Medicine).[1]

This peer-reviewed publication was founded in 1896[4] by radiologist Heinrich Albers-Schoenberg and physician Georg Deycke.[5] and its first issue was published in 1897. The journal includes scientific articles, reviews and case reports regarding medical imaging, radiology[6] and nuclear medicine.[7] It is the Official Journal of both the German Radiological Society (DRG)[8] and the Austrian Radiological Society (OERG).[9] It is published in Stuttgart,[7] Germany, by Georg Thieme Verlag KG[10] at no cost to authors, and access is free[4] at Thieme Connect.[11]
