Overview
The service was previously known as SBS E! Entertainment News and later, until 2021, as SBS funE News, operated under the SBS funE broadcast brand, before being renamed SBS Entertainment News. It was founded on January 1, 2012,[2] and was registered as an internet newspaper on February 19, 2024.[1] The outlet's stated editorial slogan is "Facts over gossip, entertaining yet dignified" (가십보단 팩트를, 재밌지만 품격 있게), positioning itself as setting the standard for Korean entertainment journalism.[1] To reach English-speaking audiences, SBSi also operates an English-language counterpart, SBS Star (sbsstar.net), which translates SBS Entertainment News's coverage.[1]
Awards
- In 2018, reporter Kim Ji-hye, then with SBS funE News (SBS Medianet), received the "Film Journalist of the Year" award at the 9th Annual Film Awards hosted by the Korea Film Journalists Association.[3]
- In 2019, reporter Kang Kyung-yoon received the 44th "Journalist of the Month" award from the Journalists Association of Korea for breaking coverage of the Burning Sun scandal.[4]
- In 2024, photojournalist Baek Seung-cheol received an excellence award in the entertainment category at the "2024 KOPA & Nikon Press Photo Awards," hosted by the Korea Online Press Photographers Association and sponsored by Nikon Imaging Korea.[5]
