He is best known for his comedy sketches on YouTube, Instagram and TikTok that satirise British-Bengali life and culture, as well as for his appearances on Channel 4's The Circle and as a presenter on BBC Asian Network.

He hosts the Weekend Breakfast Show on BBC Asian Network and has built a large online following under the banner "The Gushti".[1][2] Mohammed has also acted in short films and documentaries, hosted live comedy events, and collaborated on branded content including a 2026 Channel 4/Tesco Ramadan series.[3]

Early life and education

Mohammed was born on 10 May 1992 to a Bengali family of Sunni Muslims in Birmingham, England. His father Askar Ali came to England from Sylhet, Bangladesh and worked in the food industry. Mohammed has described his childhood as culturally confusing, feeling like he lived "two lives" between home and school. His parents sent him to Bangladesh for extended visits to strengthen his cultural roots.[4] Mohammed graduated with a first-class integrated Master of Engineering with Business Management from the University of Birmingham before pursuing content creation full-time.[5]

His community is known as "The Gushti". Notable early videos include prank calls, "SMASHTalk" street interviews and compilation sketches that have garnered hundreds of thousands of views. He has since collaborated with brands such as Marvel Studios (for Loki), Haribo and O2.[4][6] Mohammed also performs stand-up and hosts events. In 2025, he hosted Bangla Month presents Comedy with SMASHBengali at Birmingham Repertory Theatre. He has appeared at the Halal Food Festival in Birmingham (2024), Nowka Bais events and other community festivals.[7][8]

Television

In 2021, Mohammed appeared as a contestant on series 3 of Channel 4's reality show The Circle, catfishing as "Syed", a 63-year-old restaurant owner loosely based on his uncle. He reached the final and placed fourth, earning widespread recognition for his humorous portrayal.[9]

He has appeared in the 2021 documentary Being British Bangladeshi, alongside other British-Bangladeshi comedians exploring identity.[10]

Acting credits include the role of Saiful in the TV series Classified Freaks (2020) and Corner Shop: Thank You, Come Again (2019).[5]
