S M kayum (Bengali: এস এম কাইয়ুম; born 16 October 1991 in Khulna) is a Bangladeshi filmmaker, screenwriter and poet.[3][4][5] His work addresses such themes as deception-hypocrisy, urban youth romance, middle class angst, and frailty of individual. These thematic preoccupations reflect his sociological training and his keen observation of contemporary Bangladeshi society.

Early life
Kayum was born on 16 October 1991 in Bagerhat District, located in the southwest of Bangladesh. He is the eldest of three siblings. Raised in the scenic surroundings of Dighlia, nestled between the Bhairab and Atrai rivers, Kayum began his early education at Star Jute Mills High School, where he studied until class 7. He then transferred to C.S. Pilot Model Secondary School in Kachua, Bagerhat. Kayum later pursued higher education at Khulna University, earning both his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Sociology.[6]
Filmography
S M Kayum's directorial debut is the feature film Antorborti, which is currently in post-production.[7][8][9] Starring Ahmed Rubel,[10][11] Amirul Haque Chowdhury, Rahmat Ali, Abu Hurayra Tanvir,[12] Neelanjona Neela,[13][14] Naresh Bhuiyan, Fariha Shams Sheuti. Masum Aziz had been cast in the film, but he passed away on 17 October 2022..[15][16] The music of the film was composed by Pintu Ghosh to lyrics written by S M Kayum, tune by Rahul Kumar Datta.[17] [18][19][20][21][1][2]
Singer Fahmida Nabi recorded the romantic track “Tor Rin” for the film Antorborti. The song marks her first duet collaboration with vocalist Imran Mahmudul. The lyrics were written by S M Kayum, with composition by Rahul Kumar Dutta and music arrangement by Musfiq Litu.[22][23]

Literary work
S M Kayum is involved in drama and film direction as well as creative writing. He mainly writes poetry. His poems are regularly published in the country's national dailies, such as Prothom Alo,[28][29] Daily Sangbad, The Daily Ittefaq, Bhorer Kagoj,[30] follow-upnews,[31] Shampratik Deshkal,[32] and Bharat Bichitra, which is published by the High Commission of India, Bangladesh.[33] Since 2016, he has been editing a literary magazine named Noi (Bengali: ণই), is a Bengali language literary magazine published by the Noi Prokashan from Bangladesh on yearly. A group of young authors of Bengali language and literature write on this magazine with their experimental writing style .
