Background

On 23 January 1565, the Vijayanagara regent Rama Raya engaged in conflict against the combined armies of Ahmadnagar, Bijapur, Golconda, and Bidar.

Sacking of the city

The main Deccani army reached the city on 8 February 1565.[1] The city had no defenses, as most of the Vijayanagara army was destroyed at Talikota, and the remaining few who survived fled east.

Aftermath

In July, the Deccani army left the city, leaving most of it in ruins. Tirumala Deva Raya returned to the city in August. After the destruction of the city, Vijayanagara shifted its capital to Penukonda.
