Sahil Rony[1] (born October 25, 1983) is a Bangladeshi cinematographer and director. He is known for his work in feature films, television commercials, and short films. He has served as the Director of Photography for several notable films, including Deyaler Desh (2024), Chironjib Mujib (2021), and Desha: The Leader (2014). Rony is also the General Secretary of the Cameraman Association of Bangladesh (CAB).

Early life and education

Sahil Rony [2] was born on October 25, 1983, in Jessore, Bangladesh. He began his career in the film industry in 1998, working with filmmaker Saiful Islam Mannu. He later received training in cinematography from the Annapurna College of Film and Media in India. Career.

Rony has worked as a cinematographer on numerous feature films, collaborating with various directors. His filmography includes works such as Deyaler Desh, Payer Chap, Chironjeeb Mujib, Taar Kono Naam Nei, Mukhosh Manush, and Hello Amit. His work on the government-grant-funded film Deyaler Desh received critical praise, and the film was distributed internationally. He also served as the cinematographer for Chironjib Mujib, a significant biographical film based on the autobiography of the Father of the Nation, In addition to feature films, Rony has worked extensively in television, creating content for national channels like Deepto TV, where he was a former Director of Photography. His advertising portfolio includes campaigns across the energy, manufacturing, and finance sectors.

In 2020, Rony directed the short film Manush (The Soul), which garnered significant international recognition, winning several awards at various film festivals.

As of 2024, he was elected the General Secretary of the Cameraman Association of Bangladesh for a term lasting until 2026.[3]
