Samira Hussain (born 1979) is a Canadian journalist. She is a business correspondent and presenter for BBC News and is based in New York, where she regularly presents the Business Today show that is broadcast globally. The focus of her role is on covering the global economy from a North American perspective, which involves reporting from the New York Stock Exchange and interviewing business leaders.[1][2][3]

In 2018 she spoke to the president of the New York Stock Exchange, Stacey Cunningham, about being a successful woman in a male dominated industry. [4]

Career

Hussain has covered American business and economics for more than 10 years but also had a stint as South Asia Correspondent, based in Delhi, India from 2023 until 2025.

Her career has seen her report from many other countries too including Bangladesh, Canada, Mexico, Sri Lanka and Ukraine [5][6].

Notable stories that she covered in India include the 2024 elections that gave Narendra Modi a third consecutive term as Prime Minister [7], the June 2025 crash of an Air India plane in Ahmedabad that claimed 241 lives and the 2025 Prayag Maha Kumbh Mela crowd crush in which at least 30 people killed and many more injured.

Before moving to the BBC in 2013 Hussain worked for the Canadian broadcaster CBC News [8] where she secured the network's first ever interview with a sitting US president, Barack Obama. [9]
