She grew up in the Azores and began showing an interest in music at a young age, writing songs and performing on stage since her teenage years. Over time, she became one of the emerging voices of the new generation of Portuguese music, with a style that blends contemporary folk, pop and the singer-songwriter tradition.[1]
Career
Sara Cruz is a singer-songwriter from the Azores (São Miguel Island) whose music blends pop and folk in an intimate and emotional style, supported by highly visual songwriting and a close, expressive performance.[1]
Throughout her career, she has been recognized as a FNAC New Talent and winner of the NiT New Talent competition (2019).[2]
In 2021, she was featured in the documentary series House of Talents, produced by Yamaha Music Europe.[3] In 2023, she performed in several programs and festivals, including OuTonalidades, Festival d’O Engenho, Festival Maré de Agosto and Festival IKFEM.
In 2024, she released her debut album, Fourteen Forty-Five, featuring the singles Day or Two, Grass Is Greener, The Show and Plot Holes. The album led to a national tour with performances at festivals and venues such as Ovar Expande, 12 FNAC Sessions,[4] Chaves, Mora, Odemira, Palmela, Olhão, Lagoa, the Montepio Às Vezes o Amor Festival (Lisbon),[5] and the Chefs on Fire Festival (Foz Côa),[6] among others.[1]
In December 2025, she released the EP Live & Acoustic,[7] recorded in live takes (voice and guitar) as stripped-down versions of songs from the album. The record also includes her first song written in Portuguese, Na Ponta da Madrugada, as well as a cover of the classic Somethin’ Stupid. In 2026, Sara Cruz continues to present these projects live.[1]
