Education

Faridi was born in Iran, where she attended high school; she received her bachelors degree from the Iran University of Science and Technology.[3][4] She started her Ph.D in 1994 at Brandeis University, but later moved to the University of Michigan, where was awarded a Ph.D. in mathematics in 2000.[1][3] Her thesis was entitled Closure Operations on Ideals,[5][6] supervised by Karen E. Smith.[7]

Career

After graduating, she worked as an assistant professor at the George Washington University for two years.[3] In 2002, she immigrated to Canada and joined the University of Quebec at Montreal (UQAM) as a postdoctoral fellow. She left UQAM in 2004 to work at the University of Ottawa, where she stayed for one year before joining the faculty of Dalhousie University.[3] She has also spent time as a visiting researcher at Technische Universität Darmstadt and the Mathematical Sciences Research Institute.[8]

Faridi serves on the board of directors and executive committee of the Atlantic Association for Research in the Mathematical Sciences (AARMS) and as Vice President – Atlantic Provinces for the Canadian Mathematical Society.[9][10][11] She directed the 2013 AARMS summer school.[12] She has organized events including "Connecting Women in Mathematics Across Canada"[13] and "Symposium for South Asian Women in Mathematics".[14][15]
