Saul Klein O.B.E. (born October 23, 1970) is a British tech investor[1] who co-founded LoveFilm (acquired by Amazon in 2011 for $312 million).[2]



In 2011, Klein was ranked by the Telegraph as fourth on a list of the 100 most influential technology investors in Europe,[3]and was described as "one of Europe's best known and most successful investors" by Yahoo News in 2018. [4]

Since 2021 he has been a member of the Council for Science and Technology which advises the Prime Minister on science and technology policy issues across government and was a founding NED of the UK’s Department of Science, Innovation & Technology (DSTI). He has also been appointed to the UK government’s Creative Industries Taskforce announced in December 2024.[2]

He was appointed by David Cameron as Britain’s first Technology Business Ambassador to Israel in 2012 and was appointed an OBE for services to business in 2016.[2]

Klein is cofounder and executive chairman of venture capital firm Phoenix Court, home to seed stage venture fund LocalGlobe [5], breakout fund Latitude, growth fund Solar and emerging investor fund Basecamp, that has invested in Monzo, Tide, Nothing and Raspberry Pi.[3]

Klein was part of the original executive team at Skype, working as VP of marketing and then e-commerce until the firm’s 2005 acquisition by eBay. [6]

Klein is credited with coining the phrase New Palo Alto[7], which describes a connected area of tech clusters in Northern Europe - within 5 hours train journey from London. He also coined the phrase 'thoroughbreds' as opposed to unicorns in tech investment. [8]

Klein was a trustee at Comic Relief from 2015 to 2022.[2]
