Gameplay

Sea of Remnants is set in a world called Orbtopia, where players navigate an expansive ocean and interact with a central hub city. The game utilizes two distinct combat systems: real-time naval warfare and turn-based land combat.[2]

The turn-based combat features a "slot-machine" or spinner mechanic that can grant players additional actions.[3] Exploration is driven by a dynamic weather system and includes environmental hazards such as whirlpools and sea monsters. The central hub, Orbtopia, contains over 400 unique NPCs and various social activities.[4]

Development

The game is developed by Joker Studio, an internal division of NetEase known for Identity V. Development began in October 2019 and lasted approximately seven years prior to its planned upcoming release.[5] According to the development team, the game's narrative structure and art style were inspired by psychological thrillers and maritime folklore.[4]

In February 2026, NetEase held a "Wanderer" technical alpha test for PC players to stress-test the game's servers and gathering mechanics.[3]
