Stan Waddell is a higher-education information technology administrator who serves as vice president for information technology and chief information officer at Carnegie Mellon University.[1][2] He previously served as associate vice president for information technology and chief information officer at the University of New Hampshire, and held senior technology roles at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center.[3][4]

Career

Waddell has described his career path as beginning in the telecommunications industry before moving into information security and then broader IT leadership in higher education.[5] He served at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill as chief technology officer and assistant vice chancellor for infrastructure, operations and communications technology.[3] During his time at UNC, he was quoted in coverage of a university project to expand Wi-Fi service across all residence halls.[6]

In 2015, Waddell was named chief information officer at the University of New Hampshire.[3] In coverage of higher-education technology policy, he discussed the need for more programmatic approaches to university computer-use and risk-management policies.[7]

According to the University of New Hampshire's announcement of his appointment, Waddell holds a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from Old Dominion University, a master's degree in management and administrative sciences from the University of Texas at Dallas, and a doctorate in information systems from Nova Southeastern University.[3] His dissertation, A Study of the Effect of Information Security Policies on Information Security Breaches in Higher Education Institutions, was published under the name Stanie Adolphus Waddell.[8]
