Tarang Gupta is a business executive and the Managing Director of Alaska Milk Corporation, a subsidiary of Royal FrieslandCampina N.V., based in the Philippines.[1] He previously served as Managing Director of Dutch Lady Milk Industries Berhad (FrieslandCampina Malaysia) from 2018 to 2021.[2]

Career

Gupta has over 20 years of experience in the fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) industry. He began his career in sales and marketing roles at Perfetti Van Melle, Hindustan Lever Limited (Unilever), CavinKare, and Sara Lee International.[3] In 2010, he joined Royal FrieslandCampina as the International Marketing Director for Infant & Toddler Nutrition, based in Singapore.[3] From 2014 to 2017, he served as Marketing Director for FrieslandCampina Nigeria.[4]

Dutch Lady Malaysia

In January 2018, Gupta was appointed Managing Director of Dutch Lady Milk Industries Berhad, a Bursa Malaysia-listed subsidiary of FrieslandCampina.[5] During his tenure, the company achieved the number one market position in both specialised nutrition and consumer dairy in Malaysia.[1] He also commissioned the construction of a new production facility in Negeri Sembilan in partnership with Royal HaskoningDHV.[6]

Alaska Milk Corporation

In August 2021, Gupta was appointed Managing Director of Alaska Milk Corporation in the Philippines.[1] In 2022, under his leadership, Alaska Milk established the Philippine-Netherlands Dairy Excellence Center (PNDEC) in partnership with the Department of Agriculture, the National Dairy Authority, and the University of the Philippines Los Baños.[7] The company also achieved plastic neutrality in 2022 through partnerships including the Plastic Credit Exchange and the establishment of a multi-layered plastic upcycling facility.[8]

Leadership philosophy

In interviews, Gupta has described his approach as an "owner's mindset," in which employees are encouraged to act as the CEO of their own territory.[4] He has cited his experience in Nigeria during the Ebola crisis, oil price collapse, and political instability as formative in developing his approach to leadership in volatile and uncertain environments.[4]
