  • Comment: Article reads like a resume/puff piece, and the sourcing is really subpar: there seems to be a plethora of em, but if you look closely at least half are from Allmusic, record companies, etc, and I'm not convinced All About Jazz is that independent or significant either. Background

Ted Poor studied in Eastman School of Music with Rich Thompson and John Beck. After graduating in 2003, Ted moved from his hometown of Rochester, New York to New York City, where he became one of the founders of Brooklyn Jazz Underground, and later to Seattle. Ted had an early success as a drummer for bassist Todd Sickafoose’s band, and Sicakfoose introduced Ted to Andrew Bird, the latter took Ted Poor as a member his band, including solo performance. Music by duet of Bird with Ted Poor was described as genre-defying.[2] Ted participated in albums like Are You Serious, My Finest Work Yet and Glass Heart. He is an Associate Director, Associate Professor of Jazz Studies at the University of Washington in Seattle, was awarded Donald E. Petersen Fellowship for Excellence. Performs on radio Live from Here with Chris Thile.[3]

Poor is also a member of many groups, such as the Ben Monder Quartet, the Cuong Vu Trio, the Andrew Bird trio, the Aaron Parks Trio, the David Berkman Quartet and the Jerome Sabbagh Quartet, cooperates with known artists like Paul Simon, Bill Frisell, Pat Metheny, Blake Mills, Madison Cunningham, My Brightest Diamond, Myra Melford, Gabriel Kahane, Donny McCaslin, Joris Roelofs [de], Tom Collier.[4][5][6][7][8][9] Also led group Mt.Varnum which recorded Poor's music Wounded Caroline,[10] also established trio Third Wheel.[11][excessive detail?]

After signing with Impulse! Records, Poor released his first album You Already Know in 2020.[12][13][14][15]

Ted Poor participated as a percussionist in the album Folkocracy by Rufus Wainwright, and the album was nominated for Best Folk Album.[16]

Reviews on Poor' music use expressions like "gripping presence", "refreshingly unique, organic approach", he was called "acclaimed jazz drummer (...joined by Andrew Bird)"[17] [18][19] "adventurous, truly dynamic, and forward-thinking drumming".[20] [21]

In summer 2025 Poor had a long tour in Europe with a Grammy-winning jazz guitarist John Scofield.[22]
