The Winston Pub
The Winston Pub was a live music venue and bar located in Durban, South Africa. It was known for its role in supporting alternative and independent music in the city, particularly within punk, rock, and Metal scenes.
History
Early history
The Winston Pub operated for over three decades and became a fixture in Durban’s live music environment. It developed a reputation for hosting punk, rock, and metal performances, providing a platform for emerging local artists.[1]
Prior to 2012, the venue was owned by Belinda Baney.[2]
Joyner ownership (2012–2020)
In September 2012, brothers Matthew and Luke Joyner became co-owners.[2]
The venue expanded its programming to include live music, DJ events, comedy, and art exhibitions.[2]
Role in Durban’s music scene
During the 2010s, The Winston Pub was one of a limited number of venues in Durban consistently hosting live music.[2]
It hosted touring artists from across South Africa as well as international acts.[2]
Closure
