Todd Rodgers
Todd Rodgers (born 1966) is an American high school football coach and athletic administrator. He served as athletic director and head football coach at Argyle High School in Argyle, Texas, from 2003 to 2025. During his tenure, Argyle developed into one of the most successful programs in Texas high school football, winning two University Interscholastic League (UIL) state championships and making multiple state championship game appearances.[1][2]
Rodgers compiled a 264–45 record as Argyle’s head coach and oversaw a period in which Argyle ISD athletics won multiple UIL Lone Star Cup championships recognizing the top overall athletic program in each classification.
Early life and education
Rodgers attended the University of Texas at Austin and later served as a graduate assistant with the Texas Longhorns football program from 1990 to 1992, working with defensive backs and special teams.[3]
Before entering college coaching, Rodgers had begun his coaching career at the high school level, including assistant coaching roles at Somerville and Rosebud-Lott. His experience at Texas helped shape his coaching philosophy and accelerated his development in the profession.[3]
Early coaching career
After his time at Texas, Rodgers returned to Texas high school football and coached at Rockwall High School before joining the staff at Flower Mound Marcus High School in 1994. At Marcus he served in several roles including secondary coach, defensive coordinator, and offensive coordinator while the program emerged as one of the top teams in the state.[3]
Marcus reached the UIL Class 5A Division II state championship game in 1995 and later won the state championship in 1997 during Rodgers’ tenure as an assistant coach.[3]
Argyle High School
Rodgers was hired as athletic director and head football coach at Argyle High School in 2003 after the program finished its first varsity season with a 1–9 record.[3] He chose the position over other coaching opportunities because he believed the growing community and new program had long-term potential.[3]
Under Rodgers, Argyle quickly improved, finishing 5–5 in his first season and reaching the regional final the following year. The program reached its first state championship game in 2005, only three seasons into Rodgers’ tenure.[3]
Argyle went on to become a consistent contender in Texas high school football and captured its first UIL state championship in 2013.[3]
Rodgers recorded his 200th career victory in 2020. Statistics compiled by Pigskin Prep indicate he reached the milestone in 237 games, among the fastest totals for a Texas high school football head coach.[4]
State championships
Rodgers led Argyle to two UIL state championships:
- 2013 – Class 3A (16–0), defeating Fairfield in the championship game.[5]
- 2020 – Class 4A Division I (16–0).[6]
Argyle reached the state championship game six times during his tenure (2005, 2011, 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2020).[1]
Athletic administration
As athletic director, Rodgers oversaw Argyle ISD athletics during a period in which the district won 11 UIL Lone Star Cup championships.[7]
