The six-episode series reimagines stories from the first season of the original Thai series, adapted to a Japanese high school setting. Each episode features a different director and explores themes of morality, hypocrisy, bullying, corruption, and revenge within school environments.[1]
Premise
The series follows Nanno, a mysterious transfer student who enrolls in various Japanese high schools. With her uncanny insight into people's hidden flaws and moral failings, she exposes secrets, hypocrisy, and wrongdoing among students and faculty, often leading to dramatic and supernatural-tinged consequences. The format is episodic, with each installment set in a different school and focusing on new characters and dilemmas.[1]
Cast
- Arisa Nakajima as Nanno (debut role)[1]
Additional cast members have not been publicly announced as of March 2026.
Production
Development
The project was announced in March 2026 as the first international adaptation of the popular Thai series Girl from Nowhere. Fuji Television collaborated with GMM Studios International (the original Thai production company) to localize the stories for a Japanese audience while preserving the anthology format and core themes.[1]
Directors
Each of the six episodes is directed by a different filmmaker:
- Yukihiko Tsutsumi (known for the live-action 20th Century Boys trilogy)
- Kazuyoshi Kumakiri (known for My Man)
- Yoo Youngseon (known for The Wrath)
- Miyuki Hatanaka (known for Kimbap and Onigiri: Two in Love, Alike Yet Different)
Directors have praised lead actress Arisa Nakajima's performance, with Tsutsumi noting her "remarkable 'Nanno-ness'" in promotional comments.[2]
Release
Transfer Student Nanno is scheduled to premiere exclusively on FOD on April 24, 2026, with all six episodes released according to the platform's distribution plan (details on weekly or full drop not yet confirmed).[1]
