Education

Vauth studied at the Berufsakademie Stuttgart (today DHBW Stuttgart), earning a Dipl.-Ing.(BA) in Technical Information Technology between 1986 and 1989.[citation needed]

Career at IBM

Vauth joined IBM in October 1989 and remained with the company for 34 years, until October 2023. She was based primarily at IBM's German campus in Ehningen, Baden-Württemberg.[citation needed]

Over the course of her career she progressed through IBM's technical career path, ultimately attaining the title of IBM Distinguished Engineer – a recognition reserved for a small number of IBM's most senior technical professionals globally. She was also a certified Open Group - Level 3 - Distinguished Architect[1]

In her most senior IBM role, Vauth served simultaneously as CTO for Hybrid Cloud Services (HCS) in the DACH region and as CTO of Red Hat for IBM Consulting EMEA.[citation needed]

Vauth filed and received two patent grants:

  1. US 11175947B2, Oezmen Selcuk, Nedim; Zolotow, Clea Anne & Vauth, Ulrike, "Microservices change management and analytics", published 2021-11-16, issued 2021-11-16, assigned to Kyndryl Inc. and International Business Machines Corporation
  2. US 12487845B2, Anand, Vishal; Easton, John Paul & Vauth, Ulrike et al., "Modular decomposition and composition of container software management clusters in hybrid cloud", published 2025-12-02, issued 2025-12-02, assigned to IBM (International Business Machines Corporation)

Her technical expertise encompassed cloud computing, hybrid cloud, application architecture, microservices, DevOps, agile methodologies, and the automotive sector (Connected Vehicle).[citation needed]

Vauth was an active advocate for the technical career track at IBM, mentoring colleagues and publicly encouraging engineers to pursue IBM's distinguished technical profession certifications.[citation needed]

Departure from IBM and subsequent activities

In September 2023, Vauth announced her retirement from IBM after 34 years, citing the completion of a significant personal milestone as a motivation to leave at the height of her career. She officially transitioned to freelance status in October 2023.[citation needed]

As of late 2024, Vauth had redirected her focus to a personal brand combining self-assertion coaching, self-defence instruction, and personal marketing, which she described under the label Werd und Bleib Stark. She runs related courses and maintains an active Instagram channel under that brand name.[citation needed]

Self-defence instruction

Vauth is a licensed trainer in the karate section of SV Böblingen, a sports club in Böblingen, Baden-Württemberg. She offers self-defence courses targeted at women, including a programme for refugees and local residents operated in cooperation with SV Böblingen.[2] In September 2025, she obtained an additional Guardian Girls trainer licence.[3]
