  • Comment: I see sufficient references in reliable news sources to provide notability, but there is a concern about neutrality. If that can be cleaned up, it will, in my opinion, be ready for mainspace. Signed, Guessitsavis (she/they) Talk 12:09, 17 October 2025 (UTC)

Overview

Uncloseted Media is a U.S.-based, non-partisan LGBTQ-focused news publication[3] founded in 2024 by Spencer Macnaughton.

It covers LGBTQ issues in the U.S. and globally, including legislation, healthcare, and social issues affecting queer communities.[4] Topics include legislation affecting LGBTQ rights, healthcare access,[5] religious influences,[6] and issues affecting LGBTQ youth and transgender communities.[7][8]

History

Uncloseted Media officially launched on September 3, 2024, as an online publication providing reporting focused on LGBTQ issues.[9] Its founder stated a focus on reporting about anti‑LGBTQ advocacy and related topics.[10]

The outlet operates under fiscal sponsorship from the nonprofit Resource Impact.[11] At launch it reported approximately $500,000 in pledged donations, including contributions from Gaingels co‑founder Paul Grossinger and Paul Austin of the P. Austin Family Foundation.[4]

The organization launched with author and journalist Charles Kaiser as managing editor,[4] though its website no longer lists him on the masthead.[12]

In late 2024, Uncloseted Media established a content partnership with the UK‑based magazine GAY TIMES.[13]

Podcast

In 2026, Uncloseted Media began producing a weekly podcast titled UNCLOSETED with Spencer Macnaughton, which features discussions about issues facing LGBTQ communities and interviews with contributors and external figures.[14][15]

Organization

According to its own statements, Uncloseted Media’s funding model combines philanthropic contributions and subscription revenue, with stated aims of maintaining editorial independence and expanding its coverage.[16]

Awards

In 2025, reporting associated with Uncloseted Media received an Azbee Regional Silver Award in the Impact/Investigative category.[17] That work also received a National Institute for Health Care Management Award and was a finalist for the Neal Award for Best Single Article.[18]

Another article from Uncloseted Media on transgender health and eating disorders won the Excellence in Health or Fitness Coverage Award from the National Association of LGBTQ+ Journalists.[19]
