Comment: Per the feedback in the prior decline and at the helpdesk. Athanelar (talk) 15:51, 12 February 2026 (UTC)
Comment: Most sources are either intreviews, Youtube videos by his brother, or Lists, none of which can be the basis for the establishment of notability. Most of the sources mention him only in passing, not in depth, usually when talking about his brother. Not a notable person on its own. F.Alexsandr (talk) 23:06, 29 December 2023 (UTC)

Early life and education
Neistat was raised in suburban Connecticut. He is the elder half-brother of filmmaker Casey Neistat. Van attended the College of William & Mary, where he studied English and Art History, graduating in 1999.[1]
Career
iPod's Dirty Secret
In 2003, Neistat and his brother, Casey Neistat, released the short film iPod's Dirty Secret. The film criticized Apple for the lack of a battery replacement program for the iPod. The film went viral before the advent of YouTube, receiving significant coverage from The Washington Post and Wired, the latter of which described the film as a "cultural phenomenon."[2][3] The project established the brothers' reputation for a "guerrilla" style of filmmaking that bypassed traditional media gatekeepers.[4] Apple announced an official battery replacement policy weeks after the film's release.
Early work and Tom Sachs
In 2001, Neistat began working as an assistant to sculptor Tom Sachs. This partnership led to the creation of several short films documenting Sachs's "bricolage" artistic process.[5] Neistat was named one of the "25 New Faces of Independent Film" by Filmmaker Magazine in 2006.[6]
The Neistat Brothers (HBO)
In 2008, HBO purchased the rights to The Neistat Brothers, an eight-episode series produced by Van, Casey Neistat, and Tom Scott. The show featured short, autobiographical stories filmed in a distinct, lo-fi analog style.[7] The series premiered on June 4, 2010, and was described by The Hollywood Reporter as a "charming, hand-crafted" collection of stories that felt "personal and surprisingly profound."[8]
A Space Program
Neistat directed the 2015 feature film A Space Program, a "handmade" science-fiction docudrama chronicling Tom Sachs's immersive art installation at the Park Avenue Armory. The film premiered at South by Southwest (SXSW) in 2015.[9] It was praised by The New York Times for its "primitive ingenuity,"[5] while The Hollywood Reporter review described it as a "beguiling" look at Sachs's work that would appeal to "anyone who has ever been mesmerized by a well-organized pegboard."[9]
The Spirited Man (2021–present)
In early 2021, Neistat launched the YouTube series The Spirited Man, which he describes as "industrial essay films" focusing on craftsmanship, self-reliance, and the creative process.[10] His content emphasizes the repair of physical objects and the use of analog tools, such as typewriters and manual shop equipment, within a digital medium.[11] As of 2026, the channel has over 650,000 subscribers. His transition to the platform has been highlighted as a notable shift from traditional filmmaking to independent digital storytelling, characterized by a focus on "spirited" archetypes and philosophical inquiry.[1]
