Based in Pasadena, California, the company was founded in 2016 after more than a decade of research at Caltech and NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory.

Platform

The company’s flagship solution, Integrated Readiness Optimization (IRO), uses AI-powered analytics, predictive models, and explainable AI to support decision-making across maintenance, logistics, personnel, supply chains, and deep threat analysis using predictive models.[2] IRO enables mission readiness by predicting future operational issues, optimizing resource allocation, and surfacing recommendations that shorten decision cycles.[3] It supports deployment in cloud-based and on-premise environments.

In 2025, Virtualitics launched Iris, a specialized AI agent blended with generative AI in a single interface.[4] Operators can ask Iris questions in plain language and receive contextual insights in real time. Iris can “sift through data, surface critical findings, and guide users through next steps in the decision process.”[5]

History

In the early 2010s, data scientist and entrepreneur Michael Amori, then, a managing director at Deutsche Bank, was introduced to George Djorgovski, professor of astronomy and data science and director of Caltech’s Center for Data-Driven Discovery, and Ciro Donalek, a computational staff scientist at CD3. Djorgovski and Donalek were collaborating with NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory to visualize complex datasets collected from Mars, using immersive analytics to explore massive streams of planetary and astronomical data.[6]

The trio recognized the potential for commercial applications for this technology and combined their expertise to launch Virtualitics in 2016.[7] A year later, it raised a $4.4 million Series A funding round led by The Venture Reality Fund.[8]

In 2018, Virtualitics raised $18 million in a Series B-1 round led by North Sound Ventures.[9]

In 2023, Virtualitics raised $37 million in series C funding, led by Smith Point Capital with participation from Citi and advisory clients of [[Henry Hillman|The Hillman Company].[10]

As of 2025, Virtualitics customers include the U.S. Air Force, U.S. Space Force, U.S. Army,[11] and U.S. Marine Corps.[12]
